The fifth edition of the Mihai Irimia Chess tournament 2020

Pontes Association invites you to take part between 10 – 13 December 2020 to the fifth edition of the “Mihai Irimia” Chess tournament for visual impaired! This known competition welcomes chess players from around the whole world! Spectacular chess games, unforgettable experiences and the challenge of on-line playing on Free Chess and Winboard application, accompanied by many prizes, free registration and fair-play ruling led by the Tournament Director Florin Jidanu, are the ingredients of an edition which you should not miss. You will play Swiss system, 7 games, game time 15 minutes with 12 seconds increment.

International youth exchange in Bulgaria

In September 21 - 29, 2013, an international youth exchange took place in Vratsa, Bulgaria. A group of young visually impaired persons took part in labour market trends workshops, ice-breaking games and excursions to historic and cultural monuments of the region.

ICC Goes East

ICC in Romania” is a youth exchange project to plan, set up, organise and implement an “International Camp on Computers and communication” at the “High School for the Visually Impaired” in Cluj-Napoca to give an accessible, safe, secure and most challenging “stage” for 60 young blind and partially sighted people from 11 European countries.

Let's speak up! for improving our democratic vision - Project started

The “Let's speak up! for improving our democratic vision” project will last for 18 months from January 2010 till June 2011. It is conducted by organisations based in Forli’ (Italy) and Cluj (Romania) and will involve young participants between 18 and 30 years old.

On the Skating Ring

It’s winter again and this means that we’re back on the skating ring. As children in the Highschool for the Visually Impaired already got used to, we’re giving them again the chance to practice skating or start learning it.

Going Out to Have Pizza – Saint Nicholas’s Gift

For those children who have behaved well, Saint Nicholas came a little earlier this year and, to their surprise, took them out, to have pizza at the restaurant. The lucky ones were twenty four students of the High School for the Visually Impaired in Cluj, who, accompanied by the Pontes volunteers, went to have pizza out, some of them for the first time in their life.

Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania – now accessible

On September 30, 2009 was launched the accessible section of the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca. This accessibility is a real, truly made for blind people, for access to culture.

Project Youth in Action - Playing Together

Between 18 and September 26, the activities of Playing Together project took place in Călimăneşti, Vâlcea, Romania. There were participants from Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and Spain.

Pontes General Assembly on September 12, 2009

On September 12 there was the third General Assembly of the Association Pontes. It took place in Cluj-Napoca, in one of the halls of the building of High School for the Visually Impaired.

Pontes branch in Arad

Pontes Association has established its first branch outside of Cluj. Even if the organization are enrolled members across the country, until June this year, only the core of Cluj was very active.

ECDL courses for persons with visual disabilities

In the period April-June 2008, Holding Brinel from Cluj-Napoca held ECDL courses for people with visual disabilities. The project ran from April 5 to July 5, 2008 was able to provide the visually impaired persons all means to obtain an internationally recognized IT certification.

ECDL for visually impaired

On Saturday, the fifth of April, there was organized the first meeting for the ECDL course, for the visually impaired, by Holding Brinel in cooperation with Pontes.The courses will take place every Thursday and Saturday, in the computers lab of High School for Visually Impaired in Cluj.

Look at Me - Project in Bulgaria, Sofia

Between 26.01 and 04.02. 2008, Pontes, in cooperation with A.C.T.O.R., made possible the participation of 6 visually impaired pupils and students in a “Youth in action” project, consisting in a sport and intercultural exchange focused camp in Bulgaria.

Fundraising Campaign

The Fundraising Campaign, which will take place between March 6thand and December 2007, aims to raise the amount of money necessary for buying a Braille printer. The acquisition of a printer is very important to Pontes, because of the great amount of brailled materials needed for the programmes we are developing.

Donated Books

The Foundation for European Studies in Cluj-Napoca has donated to Pontes nineteen books, which value approximately 90 euros. The books, which focus mainly on European politics and culture, will be scanned and made available to all the users of the virtual library.
