The printing of menus in restaurants in Braille and large print
One of our projects aims at making the menus in restaurants available both in Braille and large print, so that the meals that the visually impaired are taking out could become more enjoyable and free of stress. The project has started in January 2007 and is the first of this kind in Romania. We want the visually impaired to be more independent and feel more confident, but this cannot happen when there are still so many things they cannot have access to, like the menus in restaurants which they cannot read unless they are Brailled or printed with large fonts. This is why we have started this project and want to have Braille and large print menus in at least twenty restaurants by the end of 2007. For the accomplishment of the project we need volunteers who are willing to help with the scanning, the correcting and the printing of the menus. It’s work to do, but the positive results we are getting tell us it’s worth doing it. If you want to get involved, please, come and become part of the team.
Description of the streets in Cluj and other cities
Another activity for which we need many volunteers is the description of the streets in Cluj, especially the central ones. We want to create complex presentations, describing all the important places in the streets and all the details necessary for a good orientation. Through this project, the visually impaired will get a chance to know the city better, will find out about many shops, restaurants, services etc which they haven’t known before and will discover guide marks that will make walking in the streets easier and more exciting.
