Look at Me - Project in Bulgaria, Sofia


Between 26.01 and 04.02. 2008, Pontes, in cooperation with A.C.T.O.R., made possible the participation of 6 visually impaired pupils and students in a “Youth in action” project, consisting in a sport and intercultural exchange focused camp in Bulgaria. The project, entitled “Look at me” involved, beside the intercultural exchange between the six teams, *Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Romania) the implementation of those activities that can best fasten the blind and non-blind relations. During the ten days of the camp, the 50 participants had the opportunity to efficiently socialize both formally and non-formally in workshops and spare time. Taking into account the fact that that Levski Sport Club, the sport activities were highly represented. Thus, the participants were involved in competitions as goalball, sweeming, bi-jogging (jogging for blind and sided persons that run together). To increase the interest for sport there were organized visits to the National Sports Academy, to the Trophies Museum and to the stadium of Levski Sofia Club. An other sort of activity implied team-work where participants both blind and sided could express themselves by making clay sculpture and origami, or in games of cards and chess. There were also organize, for the general benefit, seminaries concerning the implementation of “Youth in Action” programs, where the participants received a basic instruction regarding European youth projects. The specificity of every participant country was promoted not only during an intercultural night with traditional food, dance and music, but also by the everyday meetings, by exchanging contacts and good music, and by every nights long chatting. Even more, the experience proved itself useful, by giving to every participant the chance to bring his or her contribution to the atmosphere of cultural diversity of our time.
