I’d like to propose you to try to discus a little bit also here about our topics from the workshops.
So, what do you think about the accesible technology?
Do you consider that this is a good way to make the visual impaired people more independent?

First of all, I’d like to know about screen-readers used by the others… All of you use Jaws for Windows? -

August 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pmHello, I think that technology is one of the most important ways to integrate people with disabilities. In my opinion, we can do things that was imposible a few years ago. For example, if you are blind, you could not read a newspaper; getting information was very dificult; work in a company was extreamly hard, because we cannot read standar documents. Now, screen-readers, like jaws, are a very good solution, because it let us get digital information. This is the reason, because technology is very important for equality chance.
Best regards.

August 21st, 2009 at 6:22 amHello again, friends! Adaptive and accessible technologies seems to be a very large and infinite topic we could discuss about for quite a long time.
But in brief … in my modest opinion we could consider in this category not only the achievements of high-tech industry which let us be independent in the virtual space, but all kind of utilities that make our life easier like: braille watches, thermometers, canes, cash-tests, label marker, liquid level indicator and many others. \All these and the IT gadgets are very useful, but the main question is if they are available on our markets and affordable. For example canes are the only facility produced in Bulgaria but with low quality. Everything else we have to order online or to go and buy from abroad. Synthesizers like Jaws for Windows, Window Eyes, Zoom Text and Super Nova are very expensive, so almost nobody could afford to pay or if they could, they prefer to save the money and to use a cracked version of this software. So I am interested is it the same in your countries and if not to share with us the experience. It could be of great importance to us in order to persuade and influence the state bodies at home. Thanks

August 21st, 2009 at 5:29 pmI’m curious about white canes produced in Bulgaria… Have these canes a roller tip? Sometimes ago, one factory from Romania tried to make canes for blind people, but they forgot to attach a roller tip.

August 21st, 2009 at 5:41 pmregarding the canes, produced in Bulgaria and sold by the union of the blind, they are only pencil tips. The roller tip canes some of us have come from Belgium, Spain, UK or USA.

August 22nd, 2009 at 11:57 amAlso in Romania, they are trying to produce some canes with pencil tips, but I think I couldn’t use it more. Sometimes I try to remember how I could use this kind of canes…
What about adapted games for visual impaired? Do you have this kind of games in your countries? -
micboy Says:
August 25th, 2009 at 7:52 amas to the games – no; they are not so popular among the visually impaired in BG. The only time I’ve played such kind of game was 6 years ago at International Computer Camp. It would be very interesting and that’s one of the reasons for waiting the next youth exchange in September to begin.
